Abstract:
The section of Railway Engineering at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands (TU Delft) is the only research department in the Dutch universities, which focuses on the railway infrastructures. The research activity there tackles the difficulties in railway sciences and engineering, explores the many unknowns and challenges the future.
This lecture introduces the scientific researches actively being conducted at TU Delft Railway Engineering, including wheel-rail interface, catenary-pantograph relationship, vibration and noise, condition monitoring at crossings and its degradation processes, rail fatigue at micro scale, and various inspection techniques for rail damages. It proposes a vision on the future railway systems.
